Summary
Silahlı okul saldırılarına yönelik çalışmalar; sosyoloji, psikoloji ve medya araştırmalarını içeren çeşitli disiplinlerde yürütülmektedir. Fakat bu tür olaylar hakkında şimdiye dek bütünleştirilmiş bir bilgi kaynağı olmamıştır. Geçmişte yapılmış çalışmaları sentezlemek ve silahlı okul saldırılarına dair gelecekte yapılacak çalışmaları yönlendirmek amacıyla, bu makale: 1) Taşkınlık, toplu katliam, terörist saldırıları, hedefe doğrudan saldırı ve hükümete yönelik saldırıyı içeren silahlı okul saldırılarının çeşitlerini anlamak için bir tipoloji sunar, 2) Silahlı okul saldırılarının basın etkisini inceler ve 3) Bireysel, toplumsal ve sosyal seviyelerde yapılan araştırmalarda sunulan çok seviyeli nedenlerin bir sentezini sunar. Sonuç olarak bu çalışmada silahlı okul saldırılarına yönelik gelecekte yapılacak çalışmalara dair öneriler araştırılmıştır.

Abstract
Studies of school shootings have been conducted in a variety of disciplines, including sociology, psychology, and media studies. However, to date there is no unified body of knowledge about such events. In an effort to synthesize past studies, and orient future studies in school shootings, this article: 1) offers a typology for understanding the varieties of school shooting incidents, including rampages, mass murders, terrorist attacks, targeted attacks, and government shootings, 2) examines the mass media dynamic of school shootings, and 3) presents a synthesis of the multi-level causes suggested in the research, including those on the individual, community, and social levels. Suggestions for future studies in school shootings are explored.
