A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF THE STUDIES ON DISTANCE MUSIC EDUCATION IN TURKEY DURING THE PANDEMIC PROCESS

The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected education and training activities as in many other fields. This effect has been felt more strongly especially by music educators, students and researchers who have been distant from distance education since the past. Both in Türkiye and in other countries, there is a need for studies examining the problems encountered in distance music education during the pandemic process, solution suggestions and the advantageous aspects of this process. These studies will reveal the current situation and shed light on the extraordinary situations to be encountered in the future. The aim of this study is to reveal the demographic characteristics of the articles on distance music education conducted in Türkiye during the pandemic process, the advantageous and disadvantageous aspects of distance music education obtained from the results, and the suggestions offered in a holistic and comprehensive manner. The sample of the study, in which the survey model was used, consists of 56 articles published between 2020-2022. The data obtained by document analysis technique were analyzed using content analysis. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that the qualitative method was mostly used in the studies, the study group was university students in the field of music, the data were mostly collected through interviews and questionnaires, and analyzed by descriptive analysis method. According to the findings of the study, video recording of the lessons and its flexible structure in terms of time and space stand out as the advantageous aspects of distance music education. In addition, providing uninterrupted education, developing the skills of using information communication and music technologies and contributing to equality of opportunity in education are other advantageous aspects. Inadequate communication and interaction, internet connection and synchronisation problems, lack of infrastructure and low motivation are the disadvantages of distance music education. In the studies, suggestions such as improving the infrastructure, providing technical support to stakeholders, providing in-service training and designing curricula and course content for distance education were presented.
