Abstract


ANALYSIS OF CARTOONS IN TERMS OF VALUES IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY

The inclusion of values education in formal and informal processes from early childhood makes a great contribution to children's internalization of social and universal values more quickly and effectively. Television, which is an active media tool due to its visual and auditory nature, is an important tool in this regard. Considering the time children spend in front of the television, it is expected that this tool will serve the right purposes. According to social learning theory, when it is considered that individuals learn behaviors through modeling, imitation and observation, the content of cartoons prepared especially for young children and the behaviors exhibited by the characters are important in this context. For this reason, in recent years, it has been tried to include cultural and universal values in domestically produced cartoons especially for children. In this study, it is aimed to examine the basic values in the cartoons that preschool children watch most. This study is a descriptive case study and a multi-step sampling method was used in the study. First of all, for this study, the names of the cartoons they watch the most were taken from 150 children aged 4-5, attending kindergarten and kindergarten. Among the most preferred cartoons by children, the top five cartoons were determined, and 25% of the published episodes of each of them were randomly selected, and the sample group to collect data was determined. The episodes watched were examined in terms of basic values. Due to the nature of the research, the data were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive analysis methods. According to the research, the most preferred cartoons are respectively; The people of Pijamaske are Rafadan Tayfa, Niloya, Pepee and King Şakir. Despite the fact that these cartoons have different values in themselves, it has been seen that values such as benevolence, cooperation and friendship are mostly included in all of them, while values such as honesty and equality are given little or no place.
