DETERMINATION OF PRE-SERVICE CLASSROOM TEACHERS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE COURSE OF “PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS CULTURE”
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the pre-service classroom teachers’ attitudes towards the course of “Physical Education and Sports Culture” in relation to variables of gender, the father’s profession, age, the reason for selecting the department of classroom teacher education and the university attended. The universe of the study consists of 2nd year students attending the Classroom Teacher Education Departments of Elementary Education Programs at the Education Faculties of Konya Necmettin Erbakan University (KNEÜ) and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (MSKÜ) in 2014-2015 academic year. In the present study, “Scale of Attitudes towards the Course of Physical Education and Sports Culture” (BESKDTÖ) developed by the researcher after seeking expert opinions was employed to collect data. The scale includes four items to elicit the personal information of the participants and 24 items to elicit their attitudes towards the course of physical education and sports culture. In the study, five-point Likert Type scale was used. In the analysis of the data, SPSS 16.0 program package was used and frequencies were calculated and t-test, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) were run. It was found that the pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards the course of physical education and sports culture do not vary significantly depending on gender, the father’s profession and age variables. However, the reason for selecting the classroom teacher education department and the university attended were found to have significant effect on their attitudes. The attitudes of the participants attending KNEÜ were found to be more positive than those of the participants attending MSKÜ.
