EVALUATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN GEOGRAPHY
One of the main topics in geography is environment. Place is important for geography. One of the concepts that describe and introduce the place is environment. Environmental education has a more important place and it is a crucial stage for all sciences as well as to be beneficial to humanity which is the main aim of geography. For this reason, it is always necessary to conduct environmental education studies in the geography. In this research, a study on the problems of education in geography and environmental education and to indicate the impact on various environmental variables. For this purpose, an environmental questionnaire was developed which was consisting of three section: (1) personal information form, (2) environmental knowledge, and (3) environmental behavior. This survey, different grades level students in seven primary and five high schools, anyone who works in the public and private sector, from tradesman to housewife, totally 620 respondents were applied in the district of Çekmeköy (Istanbul). The gathered datas of the study were analyzed through descriptive statistical techniques in SPSS software. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskall-Wallis Tests were applied to correlational statistics techniques. Environmental education should be given in every environment, to be practical, and every environment should be used as a tool for environmental education. Environmental education, which is the biggest factor in acquiring environmental awareness, should be extended to reach all segments of the society.
