RELIGIOUS DISCOURSES IN THE WORK NAMED LETTERS FROM MY WINDMILL OF ALPHONSE DAUDET
Letters from My Windmill (French: Lettres de mon moulin) is a collection of short stories by Alphonse Daudet first published in its entirety in 1869. This work is composed of some memory letters in which each one contains an interesting story. It is cherished by many French, particularly in the South, for the picture it paints of the local culture. The author has created a small provincial world full of sense of humour and vitality. Without doubt, Letters From My windmill, brings us on a journey through space and time. It gives sections into rural life by pastoral descriptions. Daudet emphasizes some values in their society like, love, religious life, fidelity, dignity of life, freedom. In this work, we will put particular emphasis on religious discourses. Especially we will try to expose how churchman of Cucugnan makes an effort for inviting people to the church. The scenes concerned the paradise and hellfire are described conspicuously. Author’s humorous style recolors more these scenes. The work draws attention to the religious discourses, rituals and ceremony. However it exhibits religious understanding and sense of life of XIX. century.
