Abstract
USING GOOGLE EARTH IN GEOGRAPY TOPICS IN SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON AND TEACHERS OPINIONS
This study aims to determine where and how to use the Google Earth program in terms of the social studies acquisitions and learning strands that are related to geography issues, and to reveal their thoughts about using Google Earth in social studies lessons. The research is in a basic character, document analysis and interviews were used as qualitative research methods. Working group consists of 10 social studies teachers who serve within the borders of Kastamonu Province in the state primary schools during 2011-2012 academic year. The working group was selected with maximum diversity sampling method and the data was obtained through semi-structured interview form. The results show that Google Earth can be used in lessons based on teacher opinions. In addition, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade Social Studies Curricula were examined, the subjects which were found to comply with the use of Google Earth were determined, and activity examples were given.
