Summary
The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the social skill levels of prospective social studies teachers and their self-efficacy perceptions towards using creative drama (CD) method and to investigate their social skill levels and self-efficacy perceptions towards using CD method by different demographic variables. In the research, single screening model, relational screening model and causal-comparative model were used. The study group consisted of 79 final year undergraduate prospective social studies teachers. The “Scale for Self-Efficacy Perception towards Using Creative Drama Method” developed by Can and Cantürk Günhan (2009) and the “Social Skills Inventory” adapted into Turkish by Yüksel (1998) were used in the research. As a result of the research, it was determined that the self-efficacy perceptions of prospective social studies teachers towards using CD method was at high level and their social skills were at mid level. Another result of this research was that the social skill levels and self-efficacy perceptions of prospective social studies teachers towards using CD method did not vary by gender. However, a significant difference by the type of education was found at various sub-factors in favor of the ones receiving regular education between the scores of prospective teachers for the “Scale for Self-Efficacy Perceptions towards Using Creative Drama Method” and the emotional expressivity, emotional control, social sensitivity and social control sub-dimensions of “Social Skills Inventory” and the scores for the overall scale. In addition, there was a moderate, positive and significant relationship between prospective social studies teachers' scores for the “Scale for Self-Efficacy Perception towards Using Creative Drama Method” and their scores for the “Social Skills Inventory”.
