Summary
1950 öncesinde son derece yavaş olan kentleşme olayı, bu tarihten sonra kırsal bölgelerden şehirlere göçler nedeniyle hız kazanmıştır. 1980’lere kadar olan dönem incelendiğinde ise, kentsel nüfus artışının genel olarak sanayi kentlerinde çok yüksek olduğu görülür. Öte yandan kentleşmeye yön veren önemli bir etken daha ortaya çıkmıştır, bu da turizmdir. Türkiye'de turizm sektörünün önem kazanmasıyla birlikte, turizm potansiyeline sahip yerleşmeler hızla cazibe merkezi haline gelmiş ve kentleşme sürecine girmişlerdir. Turizm odaklı kentleşmeler, sanayi odaklı kentleşmelere göre çok daha yeni ve daha bölgesel bir nitelik göstermektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, yüksek turizm potansiyeline rağmen, Türkiye’de turizm odaklı kentleşmelerden farklı bir özellik arz eden Milas’ta kentleşmeyi tarihsel süreçte incelemek, farklılıkları ortaya koymak ve nedenlerini tespit etmektir.

Abstract
Urbanisation process, quite slow before 1950, gained momentum due to migrations from rural regions to cities following that year. Considering the period till 1980’s, it can be seen that urban population increase is very high in industrial cities. On the other hand a new directing factor emerged for urbanization and this is tourism. The tourism sectors gaining importance in Turkey, settlements having tourism petential become attraction tourism center rapidly and entered urbanization period. Tourism based urbanizations, shows a more regional acording to industry based urbanizations. The purpose of this study is to examine the urbanization in Milas, which offers a different speciality then the torism based urbanizations in Turkey, in a historical process, to put forth the differences and to dedect the reasons.
