"ATİYE" IN LATİFE TEKİN'S SEVGİLİ ARSIZ ÖLÜM “SHAMELESS LOVER DEATH” NOVEL
Sevgili Arsız Ölüm “Shameless Lover Death” is one of Latife Tekin's most successful novel in technics, content, typing and writing literal style. The novel's content has lots of unbelievable and unusual actions such as birds, winds, ‘kuşkuşotu’ and pumps talking, appearing of Azrail and Hızır to the novel’s hero. In this article we are going to study "Atiye" as the novel central character and some of her executions. In this article, Atiye's efforts for family member's happiness, her superstition and Islamic sourced wrong beliefs, traditions, oral culture and her temperaments will be thematically explained. Huvat Aktaş, is a man who brought new and modern figures to the village he lives in, one day he comes with a woman called Atiye. The family relays on the father and elder two child moves to a seaside city. According to the family main financial source which are father and elder 2 child’s job, they move to seaside city. Thus novel starts at the village, continues in the city. Sevgili Arsız Ölüm is a story of an originally villager family’s city life. In this point we see Atiye as the central character in the story. Atiye the mother, in order to protect her close aged teenager children, tries to hold the family together and protect them from villager’s gossips she follows some religious traditions, popular medical methods, superstitious and wrong belief rituals. Atiye who cares about her family tries cultural codes and remedies from the nature she came from. She always tries several methods to obtain her family’s peacefulness, for example she follows superstitious beliefs like magic, oral culture such as imprecation, curse, malediction, from traditions she tries the popular medicine, from Islamic worshipping she reads Yasin, pray Istikhara and wait for a dream.
