Abstract


AN ASSESSMENT ABOUT A LEGEND NAMED “HACI MEHMET BUBA AND LALASI” WHICH NARRATED IN CYPRUS
Legends which have universal structure integrating with the various cultural characteristics of the region and being nationalized. In this context the legend named “Hacı Mehmet Buba ile Lalası” which was told in Cyprus considering, it shows the same text is narrated in different names on each side of our country. This legend is also narrated in Bosnia-Herzegovina with the name of “Evliya Hizmetçi Kız” in case in Poland narrated with the name of “Evliya Kontuş”. The commonalities of this legend’s variants which are told in different regions are: 1. Agha (Lord, master, boss) goes to hajj or a remote place. 2. The lady of the house cook a food which agha like. 3. The servant (shepherd, lala) who has a miracle is teleported and takes a hot food to his agha. 4. When the agha return to his country with the food plate, the servant’s miracle is appeared. The differences of this legends which are very popular in Anatolian region and entreated the agha who symbolise of financial power and entreated the servant who symbolise of inner power are; the name of servant, the region where the legend narrated and the food which is taken by servant is different (candy, milk, dumplings, stuffed dumplings, stuffed ravioli etc.) because of the region’s cultural structure. In this article, the legend named “Hacı Mehmet Buba ile Lalası” which was narrated in Cyprus will be compared with the variants of the legend which narrated in Anatolia and Turkish tribes and a narrative of living in different countries, but the unifying force between the communities that have the same cultural background will be considered.
