TEACHER VIEWS ON EARNING THE VALUES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 4TH AND 5TH GRADES SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE
The aim of the research is to determine teacher views on values acquisition in elementary school 4th and 5th grades Social Studies course. Research is carried out with “case study” method which is one of the qualitative research methods. Fifteen 4th and 5th grade teachers working in the city centre of Erzurum in 2011-2012 educational year constitute the working group of the study. As a result of the deliberation with teachers, it is attained that family is the most significant factor affecting the values acquisition and the families should be illuminated about the values education; National and Religious Festivals’ Ceremonies are so efficient in values acquisition; one should give priority to acquisition of patriotism; information intensity in curriculum of Social Studies affects values acquisition in a negative way.
