Abstract


The Effect of Stress Coping Education on University Students' Stress Coping Styles and Automatic Thoughts Levels
The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the stress coping education on university students' stress coping styles and automatic thoughts levels. The semi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in this study, 11 subjects have been involved in the experiment group and 11 subjects have been involved in the control group. Scale of Coping with Stress (SCS) and Enhanced Automatic Thoughts Scale (ATS-E) were used for the collection of data. Eight weeks training of coping with stress were applied to the trial group. The control group did not receive any application. The significance of the pretest-posttest difference scores of the subjects were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test. Research findings showed that the education of coping with stress had no significant effect on the style of coping with stress of the university students in the trial group, however it had significant effect on the reduction in the automatic thoughts level. Comments based on the research findings were manifested and recommendations for practice and research were developed.
