Abstract


TÜRK ÖĞRENCİLERİN İNGİLİZCE ÖĞRENMEDE YAŞADIĞI GÜÇLÜKLERİN ARKASINDAKİ KÜLTÜREL ETMENLER
This is a qualitative research which is conducted through deep interview with English language instructors and teachers around 5 universities in Ankara, Turkey. To be able to find cultural patterns and reasons of the problem, the interview is limited with foreign teachers teaching English to Turkish people. Also, historical background and social reasons are touched briefly. The history of Turkish people’s interaction with English in Turkey is discussed, too. The aim of the study is to understand why Turkish people are poor at speaking, reading, writing in and listening English. It is not limited to only one skill because the goal is finding out the reasons in general. The aim here is finding cultural-anthropological reasons behind it and suggesting possible solutions. Literature on this problem is also researched. At the end of this study, some general difficulties and cultural reasons of having difficulty in learning English language are found.
