A THEMATIC AND METHODOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE (PCG) GRADUATE THESES
Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG) department is one of the departments that has gained popularity in our country in recent years in the field of educational sciences. When the almost sixty year story of psychological counseling and guidance in our country is examined, it is possible to state that the recognition of the field has been increasing every day. The objective of the current study was to examine the application based PCG graduate degree theses thematically and methodologically. The study was carried out using 268 graduate degree theses published in the YÖK National Thesis Center that are open to access. The thesis examination form developed by the researchers was developed for carrying out the thematic and methodological examination of the theses. Categorical analysis and frequency analysis techniques among the content analysis methods were used for data analysis. When the demographic results were examined, it can be stated that there was an increase in the number of application based theses starting from 2003, that the highest number of theses have been published in Ankara University and Dokuz Eylül University and that professor degree advisors prefer application based theses studies. It can be observed as a result of the thematic examination of the theses that 103 different topics have been studies in 268 theses. It was determined that “Family, marriage, family education” topics were studied in about 10% of the theses. This was followed respectively by “communication, empathy and social skill”, “Peer mediation, conflict resolution” and “vocational guidance, career counseling”.
