SALTUKNÂME: THE OLDEST SOURCE TELLING US NAME OF KASTAMONU COME OUT
On the order of Cem Sultan, the şehzâde, ordered Ebû'l-Hayr-ı Rûmi to write this epoch work called Saltukname between the years of 1473-1480, and the author wrote an extensive history of the conquest of the Kastamonu by Turks. In this work it details and examines the historical role of rulers such as Atabey Gazi, Muzafereddin Gazi, Ali Bey, Süleyman Paşa and so many heroes like Alagöz, Hasan Abdal, Bostan Dede who had a vital role in the conquest of Kastamonu by using historical resources and folk narratives. In addition to these, Saltuknâme contains vital information going back some 550 years which includes the origins of Kastamonu's name. This work also contains the point of view of the public and stories passed down from generation to generation in relation to the history of the region which includes the oldest records related to the name of the Kastamonu. This study, summarizes much of the information taken from Saltuknâme which related to the conquest of Kastamonu and its subsequent conversion into the Turkish homeland and this assesment of the narrative indicates where the name of Kastamonu was originated from and for the first time it is being brought to the attention of the academic world.
