Abstract


A PROPOSAL TOWARDS THE USING THE PARAMETER OF SİNGER’S FORMANT İN TRADITIONAL SINGING STYLE STUDIES
The physiological and acoustical researches had been done in the area of singing have gained momentum since the second half of the 20th century. The literature formed through this increased researches almost related with opera singing art, especially until recent years. The lack of written methodological sources that presently continues to exist in non-operatic singing genres show themselves in Turkey too, perhaps even more prominently with regard to the world. This lack, in essence, is a result of a process aimed to imitation of opera singing techniques and this approach shaped by the concept of modernization in musical domain. Nowadays, we can use various parameters in the researches in terms of rectifying of lack in relation to indigenous singing styles. The singing formant is one of the most commonly used parameters in the world. Singer’s formant can be defined spectrally and can be produced with technical approaches those are applied in the opera singing style. Whether this phenomenon is available or not in indigenous singing styles, points a dimension that should be take into account in the suggested methodologies related with styles in question. One of the crucial point is whether techniques of singing that creates singing formant are suitable or not for all kinds of indigenous singing styles of the world. In this regard, one should know whether singing formant is available in the related indigenous singing styles. In this study; the points, which should be taken into accounts in the study of singing formant’s presence in the other indigenous singing styles, are going to be addressed thoroughly.
