SCIENCE FESTIVAL ATTITUDE SCALE: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY
In this study, it is aimed to develop a measurement tool which can be used to determine the attitudes of secondary school students towards science festivals. The scale, was developed five-point Likert, was examined by three science educators and one Turkish educator for the determination of scale validity. Pre-application was also carried out with 6 secondary school students. After the necessary adjustments, the scale was applied to 150 secondary school students for structural validity. The scale was developed on three sub-dimensions; the belief that science festivals will contribute to personal development, the belief that science festivals are intriguing and the impact of science festivals to social life. The exploratory factor analysis was done with the aim of determining the factor design of the scale. The KMO value was found to be .796. According to the Bartlett test results, the obtained chi-square value showed a significant difference (x2(435)=2032.326; p<.01). The total contribution of the three components to the variance was found to be 46,437%. The Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was .816. As a result of validity and reliability studies, a 22-item scale with 11 positive and 11 negative items was obtained. As a result of the statistical analyzes, it is seen that the scale developed is valid and reliable.
