REVIEW THE ÖMER SEYFETTIN’S STORIES IN TERMS OF VALUES IN SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHING PROGRAM
The socialisation period in which individuals participate in society is also a process by which individuals get their own characteristics traits. The harmful effects of web communication and mass media in this process have been revealed by recent researches. It has also been found useful that be introduced children with literature and read books together with them in safety of family home where child feels safety. Transmission of values undoubtedly is one of the most important instrument to maintain societies own presence. Storytelling in the past ages was the most used way to transmit the values to children and adolescences in socialisation period. While the society tries to integrate the newcomers, it may be helpful to take advantage of the enjoyable and safe instrument, the storytelling in values education as supportive to formal teaching programs in schools At he end of research; Seventeen of the defined values has been reached in the Ömer Seyfettin’s “Yalnız Efe” and other selected stories in the scope of the research. There is any story which contains all the defined values. In this research, it has been reached that Ömer Seyfettin’s stories could be useful to transmit the values which are in the Social Study courses teaching program.
