Abstract

IMPLIED MEANING COMPREHENSION SKILLS OF SECONDARY EDUCATION STUDENTS AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THESE SKILLS AND THEIR CRITICAL READING SELF-COMPETENCE PERCEPTIONS
In this research it is aimed to find a correlation between finding the implied meaning and critical reading in high school students. Participants of this research are 12th grade students who study in central Kırşehir. It is aimed to select students from low- middle-high socio economic communities. Necessary data is obtained from “a scale of understanding the implied meaning” and “a scale to find out one’s self-efficacy on critical reading”. In the research, male students got 9,10 and female students got 10,70 out of the scale of understanding the implied meaning. Female students got more successful results when compared to male students but there was no meaningful difference found between male and female students. Another important result of this research is that there is no correlation between understanding the implied meaning and critical reading.
